"Celebrating the Black Athlete Activist"

Monday, February 22 - 3pm ET (2pm CT)

Session Preview

Professor Stephanie A. Tryce, J.D. will explore the history of Black athlete activism to demonstrate that sport was never a space free from the socio-political challenges of the broader society in which it exists. Instead, sport has proven to be an arena for social resistance. Professor Tryce will also examine the recent motivations of Black athlete activism, the role of patriotism in the backlash, the quagmire it has created for corporate sponsors, and the hope for social justice.
